A few months ago Karen Anne Sinkhorn was talking with her neighbor. She had the idea to have a lemonade stand and baked goods sale to raise money for Paws with Purpose. Raina, her nine-year-old wanted to do a stand too. Raina baked her own cookies, made popsicles, and went with Karen Anne to buy the supplies for baking goods and making lemonade. Raina and her mom invited friends and Raina even picked her own charity.

“I was familiar with OCA because our church supported this ministry, and my small group organized items at Kids Kloset,” Karen Anne explained. “And we love the organization, especially its aim to preserve the original family infrastructure. My family has been following the gateway emails for several years. Raina, Samantha, and Alexandra watched a video we received that was all about the organization and agreed it would be a worthy charity!”

“We have everything we need. I don’t see a problem with making a little money, but how much more these young ladies will learn from giving, even when it’s tough to give up their earnings,” she said. “The Bible has much to say about giving and serving one another. This is a great life lesson that will hopefully create healthy and enriching habits in each one of their lives.”

Raina and her hardworking team were able to raise $156.00! Karen Anne said that people were incredibly generous.

“We had a single donor give $50!” she said.

Karen Anne and her daughter and friends are encouraging examples of what you can do with what you have been given, whether it’s talent, time, or even money.

“Give what you can. It doesn’t have to be money; there are many ways to serve OCA. They have various opportunities that would require just a little of your time or resources that you already have and no longer need,” she explained. “Prayers are also always appreciated and even coveted for these vulnerable families and children.”

Karen Anne believes it’s more rewarding and better to give than to receive. There are endless reasons to give, and you will never be sorry you did.

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬.
