Kelsie’s Story: More Than a Home

Kelsie was a young mom of two children with another on the way. She had just decided to leave a domestically violent relationship that left her homeless; living out of her car with her kids. Kelsie did not think she could keep her third child and was considering adoption until she found temporary housing through New Life Directions. This step toward a new life for her and her children was the first time she realized she could and should keep her child. Soon after, Kelsie was referred to OCA as a struggling mom that needed support, resources, and relationships not to run the risk of losing any of her children to the state. This began a journey for Kelsie and her children where they received some rest and renewal. One way was through OCA Restore volunteers who stepped in to watch Kelsie's kids for one weekend a month. Through this service, volunteers built a unique relationship with Kelsie and her kids and have been there for Kelsie ever since.

Kelsie and her kids were able to find a house to move into and OCA volunteers rallied together to make her house a home. They built her a beautiful kitchen, donated new cabinets, installed a ceiling fan, and were able to get a new refrigerator donated. OCA was also able to purchase some much-needed household items for Kelsie and her family to be able to truly thrive.

The work didn’t end there for Kelsie’s new home. During the work on the home, volunteers gave her a special gift that is hidden within the walls and floors. Everyone who was part of this special project added scriptures on the studs and sub-floors before covering, and then prayed over her newly restored home. Kelsie’s home has been truly marked by the Word of the Lord and the faithful service of His people.

Kelsie and her Restore family are now going to church together and growing in community and fellowship as a church family. Their relationship that first started with a single nail and hammer is now being built on the foundation that God is continuing to construct by his grace. What a good God!

“It far surpasses my dream of what my home could look like. Orphan Care Alliance is truly a blessing and I’m so thankful God led me to you all. Thank you, OCA for standing by my side.”
