We were moved by God in 1998 to adopt after being influenced by friends who had adopted, & seeing an adoption story on TV. We were really dumb to the whole process so we simply asked our friends, Leann & Jerry Toby, who had adopted, to go to lunch with us. They had adopted domestically & from South Korea. They directed us to their agency & after much consideration adopted Samuel, also from Korea.
He was an incredible addition to our family, and with 5 children, we felt we were done. God felt differently, and we were surprised with a phone call from our adoption case worker about a year and a half later.
Samuel’s birth parents in South Korea had another child whom they were placing for adoption, and they called us 1st before contacting anyone else. We had 3 days to decide if we would take Sarah, and 30 days to come up with $22,000 for the adoption. God never calls you into something that he will not provide a way for you to accomplish it. We only had a couple thousand dollars and took a step of faith. We told the agency that yes, we will take her.
We set out to raise the funds by contacting everyone we knew by mail, explaining our decision, & asked for their help. Two weeks later we had received help in the form of over 80 people who had sent checks, including some LOCI members. God had sent the entire amount we needed & we actually had to turn away more people who wanted to give.
Four months later we picked up Samuel’s sister, and our little girl at Standiford Field. Life has never been the same. Again we feel that our family is complete, and now have our first grandchild.
Instead of adopting, God has now lead us into the ministry of helping & encouraging others in their adoption process. We now lead, Loci member, Trinity World Outreach Center in their adoption and orphan care ministry. God is good
